CITIES AND TOWNS

The Place Names of New Mexico” by Robert Julyan identifies the following cities/towns in Guadalupe County:

Agua Negra – Anton Chicago – Bess – Borica – Casaus – Colonias – Corona --  Cuervo – Dahlia – Dilia – Duran – Encino – La Cueva – La Loma – Milagro – Newkirk – Pastura – Pino Wells – Pintada – Puerto de Luna – San Ignacio – Santa Rosa -- Vaughn

Some of these cities, such as Encino and Pinos Wells, are now in Torrance county, though earlier records will show them in Guadalupe county before county lines changed.

CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS

San Jose Church is located in Anton Chico.  Parishioners lived in the local areas, plus some records show people traveling from El Chaperito, Las Manuelitas, Los Valles de San Augustin, San Ysidro, El Tecolote, San Antonio, La Junta, La Cueva, Rio Colorado, and Tecolotito.  Marriage records (1857-1940) and baptism records (1864-1914) for this church were published by the Hispanic Genealogical Research Center (HGRC) of New Mexico.   Angela has the books, so write to her at This Address for a look-up.  The more information you provide in your request, the better results you’ll get.

Our Lady of Refuge Church is located in Puerto de Luna.  Baptism records marriages (1864-1914) were published by HGRC, and then personal extractions by Luis Gilberto Padilla y Baca covered the years (1910-1927).  Angela has the books, so write to her at This Address for a look-up.  The more information you provide in your request, the better results you’ll get.

Santa Rosa de Lima Church is located in Santa Rosa.  Records for this church have not been extracted or published, but they are available on microfilm at a Family History Center.

St. Mary’s Church is located in Vaughn.  Records for this church have not been extracted or published, but they are available on microfilm at a Family History Center.
